Project Future postponed! Why is that?

In September 2025, we took down the large tarpaulins on which we had presented our plans for the future of the old shipyard site and dilapidated halls in the harbor village of Müritz.

What happened?

Nothing, really. And that's exactly the point.

We, the management and employees of the Kuhnle Group, developed ideas, made plans, calculated costs, hired (and paid) architects and experts to convert the unused areas of the former VEB Schiffswerft Rechlin shipyard into vacation accommodations and leisure facilities for tourists and locals. Vacation apartments, an indoor water ski facility, a fishing and biking center, a craft beer brewery, a hotel, a welcome center for the entire harbor village of Müritz—we still have plenty of space to turn the harbor village into an exciting and thrilling vacation experience.

It was particularly exciting for us.

After endless meetings, discussions, demands, renegotiations, ever new expert opinions, the installation of nesting boxes for bats and swallows, repeated revisions of an urban development contract, tentative approaches between the municipality of Rechlin and the Kuhnle Group, the involvement of mediators, calls for help to the district administrator, minister, and chamber of commerce, we have had enough of being put off again and again. We have filed our plans in the company archives.

To date, the municipality of Rechlin has not given us any objectively comprehensible reason for opposing our plans. We do not know whether the mayor or the municipal council has its own plans for our site. Perhaps in connection with the former German Armed Forces property right next to us?

We are very excited to see how things develop. Investors are being sought for the Bundeswehr site, who will build a hotel and affordable housing for locals, among other things. The Bundeswehr site is located between Claassee and the district road to Boek. Some of the buildings even offer a view of Claassee. The Müritz would also be visible if our old halls were not standing between the Bundeswehr site and Germany's largest inland lake. The view towards Müritz for future investors is therefore striking: our office building with adjoining shipyard hall, a hall for boats that is ready for demolition, the dilapidated front of the old shipyard canteen, and two other old halls. We are very excited about the investors and their future guests who will be enthusiastic about this view.

PS The archiving of our plans does not mean that they will never be implemented. The term of office of the current municipal council (and the mayor) runs until 2029.
